The story repeated by John Andrews about the footage having turned to dust seems to have been an anecdote related originally by Ed Wood, although it really doesn't quite add up either. Wood never wrote a full script or treatment for the film (since he included all of those he had written, including those for tens of unrealized projects, in his résumé), and really didn't make much effort to get the idea behind the movie 'out there' this seems a little out-of-character, since he promoted other never-to-be-realized projects vigorously over a period of years. if Wood really had so much footage of Lugosi, then why did he use so little of it in PLAN 9, including various segments of footage which were repeated more than once?). Supposedly Wood had (and I quote) 'several thousand feet' of footage of Lugosi after the actor died, only some of which had been utilised in PLAN 9.
The closest hint as to what the plot of THE UNDEAD MASSES might have been is that Wood also touted the project under the title GHOULS ON THE MOON for a short period of time following Lugosi's death.
